Teacher presents

For the end of the year presents the kids make their teachers' a piece of fused glass over at the grandma Becky's house. They design the piece themselves and do most of the cutting and placing of the glass. Grandma Becky has a kiln at her house that does the firing. Unfortunately Clay learned this year that glass has a mind of its' own and twice (while working on a piece for the same teacher) his glass piece broke. He had to start all over again with a complete different idea for her in the end.

Here is a picture of the kiln:

Sage with Mrs. Fredrick (Sage made a butterfly)

Clay with Mrs. Monday (Clay made a hanging piece of art)

Clay with Mrs. Hayes (Clay made a paper weight of a cruise ship)

Mrs. Tananto (Sage made a necklace)
Sage and I have been trying out some paper that Becky had bought that withstands being fired between the glass. So I had this idea to try to make a necklace with it. Mine is the one with the flowers. Sage designed the one with the apple for Mrs. Tananto. Mrs. Tananto is the children's gifted teacher and has already received a bowl and 2 plates over the last 2 years, so this years we were trying to come up with some unique glass item for her.

Clay made a paper weight that says "you are the best". The words are made out of copper. Clay cut the copper out of a thin sheet and glued it down to the glass then placed another piece of glass on top before fire the piece in the kiln.
