Sage has been complaining to me for months now that it is blurry when she reads, but I have not been paying that much attention to her, because at the same time 2 of her friends have recently gotten glasses. I had figured that it was a social thing. Well last week Sage stayed home from school for a "sick" day and we decided to go to Costco to have her eyes checked. The nice dr there said she need minor reading glasses, but more so he wanted her to go see an optometrist out at the beach that specializes in convergence defects and vision therapy. I am going to post a link I found on vision therapy. So far Sage has gone through the initial 2 premeetings with the vision therapist and another full work up with new dr. I sat in while the dr checked over Sage's eyes, it was really interesting to see that her left eye does
not line up a follow what the right eye is doing. It is a wonder that she is reading at a high 3rd grade level in 2nd grade when you start realizing the eye issues she has. It all makes complete sense though--she has always skipped words (particularly the small words) when reading, she has horrific handwriting, and there are several other things when you read the description she fits. John and I go back next week to meet with the dr about what all they figured out about Sage's eyes and how vision therapy fits in with that. In the mean time Sage and I ordered her new glasses (the optometrist gave us a new prescription). We ordered them from Costco, the real ones won't be in for about 2 weeks, but I took a pictures of Sage in the ones in the store.
Children's vision information network-- I am sure this is an advertisement, but it gives you some info on vision therapy
Dr. Horning's sight--this is information from Sage's dr.
